Number 57: Welcoming visitors

Hello there!

In Number 8: Meeting and greeting, we looked at a couple of useful phrases for meeting someone for the first time. In this post, we’ll look at some phrases for welcoming a visitor to your company:

Being enthusiastic about the visit:
“I’m delighted you could make it today. I’m very much looking forward to showing you around.”
“It’s great that you could find the time to pay us a visit.”

Asking about the journey:
“How was your flight / trip?”
“Did you have any trouble finding us?”

Being a good host:
“Can I get you a coffee?”
“Let me take your coat.”

Maybe you can try them the next time you have an English-speaking visitor!

All the best,
Derek

Number 56: Verbs and prepositions

Hello everyone,

Let’s a have a look at some prepositions. What? You don’t know what prepositions are? No problem, here are some examples:

with, on, at, about, under, of, in, after, into, for etc.

Look at the following sentence:

The company spent a large amount of money for training last year.

The sentence is incorrect! We don’t spend money for things, we spend money on things.

The company spent a large amount of money on training last year.

All the best,

Derek

Enjoy!

ps. there is also an option to view subtitles while you watch.

I’ll be back to posting more Business English tips very soon.

All the best until then,

Derek

Number 54: How about you?Hello everybody!

Hello everybody!

In this post we will look at a very simple conversation technique and a very useful phrase.

Have a look at the dialogue below:

Frank: So, have you stayed in this hotel before?

George: No, this is the first time. I usually stay at the Grand Hotel when I’m in town. How about you? Have you stayed here before?

Frank: Yes, I always stay here. In fact, this is my sixth time this year!

George: Really? You travel a lot!

After George has answered Frank’s question, he uses the phrase “How about you?” and then repeats Frank’s question. This is a useful way of turning the question around and keeping the conversation going.

Maybe you can use this technique in your next English conversation.

Good luck!

Derek
